Pf L Apprentices

Young apprentices are being helped to build successful careers for themselves with the support of one of the region's biggest training providers. Partnership for Learning in Speke is encouraging school leavers to join the workforce and providing them with help and advice to enable them to progress within the company.

Apprentice Craig Whyte, from Allerton, joined PfL April 2007 as a training assistant. After successfully completing his first three months with the company he was offered a full time job. The 17 year old was a former Alsop High School student and left with nine GCSEs. He admits he did not really know what he wanted to do. "I had heard a great deal about PfL and know what a good name it has and how it is regarded as a lead training provider in this area. I was delighted t be selected for a training course at PfL and totally shocked three months later when I was given the full time the post. "My job is really varied, I do everything from general administration tasks to more creative work. I am so grateful to PfL for giving me this career break."

Meanwhile, Lauren McKay, joined the PfL at the age of 21 as a receptionist in October 2006. Lauren, from Tuebrook, said "I had always done reception work and had never really thought about doing anything else until I came to the PfL. The company opened up a whole host of new opportunities for me and offered me lots of different training courses to pursue." Lauren has now been appointed as a training co-ordinator. "It is such an exciting job and something I would never of dreamed of doing if I had not of came to the PfL. I am now dealing with both small and large companies on a daily basis booking and arranging training courses. PfL has really helped me on to a proper career path."

The team at PfL are all extremely proud of Craig and Lauren. Here at PfL we have ethos of wanting to invest in our employees and Craig and Lauren are two examples of young people who have entered the company at a junior level and with our help and support have progressed. We look forward to the developing further and having successful careers within the PfL organisation."
