Apprenticeships and Other Training
                                                                                                                                                                     
                                                                                           

  • Apprenticeships - Are nationally recognised frameworks for the training of young people to a high standard in the     workplace. All frameworks are developed within the industry and are current, relevant and encompass all the skills and 
         knowledge a young person requires within that industry.     

    • Apprentices - work towrads level 2 qualifications with the apprenticeship lasting on average 18-21 months. Most Apprentices can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeships.  
    • Advanced Apprentices - Working towards level 3 qualifications, lasting on average 36-42 months.

    Higher Advanced Apprentices- working towards level 4 and 5 qualifications which will include a Foundation Degree as their Technical Certificate and will give them qualification to the professional bodies.

     EDEXEL National Diploma/Certificate

    o        National Diploma in Vehicle Technology - A broad based course covering a wide range of Motor vehicle technology and Motor Sport development

     o       Operations and Maintenance - This programme is for process industry personnel who wish to progress to a higher qualification geared to the needs of the industry. It is also for those who wish to expand their current qualifications to include the process industry

     o       Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or Electrical/Electronic - The programme comprises of modules for example in:

     *Business Systems for Technicians.

    *Communication for Technicians.

    *Science for Technicians.

    *Project Electrical and Electronic Principles.

     Plus 6 other units will be chosen to best meet the needs of the student group and their employers, which will be selected from the following:

     * Electronics, Analogue Electronics.

    * Micro Electronics.

    * Electrical Fault Finding.

    * Electronic Measurement Testing.

    * Engineering Work Place Practice.

    * Health and Safety and Welfare.

    * Programme Controllers.

    * Further Mathematics for Technicians.

     EDEXCEL Higher National Certificates and Diplomas

     

  • Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering - The HNC in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering provides learners with the skills demanded by industry

  • Plant and Process Engineering - This programme is intended for people who already have considerable experience of Plant Engineering at technician or middle management level and are in full time employment. It has been designed to meet the needs of people who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge in design, development and operations management areas. The multi-disciplinary approach followed by the programme meets the requirements of modern process industries.

     

  • Quality - This programme is for anyone who is interested in the fundamental Quality Assurance principles that are essential in today's industry. You will study modules in the following:-

     * Introduction to quality assurance

    * Statistical process control

    * Measurements, standards and specifications

    * Total quality management

    * Quality systems development

    * Standards and legislation - product/service

    * Process control and problem solving

    * Project

    * Quality assurance systems

    * Product planning and control

    * Management and communication studies

     Foundation Degrees

    A Foundation Degree is a vocational higher education qualification which combines academic study with work based learning and experience. It offers an employer a cost effective way of training new or existing staff in the skills needed in their business.

     Foundation Degrees are a level 5 qualification by QCA, designed by working closely with employers, further and higher education colleges, together with the Universities, the Sector Skills Councils and other professional bodies. With progression available to other professional qualifications and relevant, honours degrees.
